Booktopia: Petoskey, MI

Booktopia was delightful and Jess and Matt from McLean & Eakin Bookstore are among the smartest, humblest, and most fun-loving booksellers I've had the pleasure of meeting. I was so impressed that I even bought a Kobo eReader and linked it to their store. (Kobo lets you buy ebooks with part of the revenue going to an indie store).

And another great thing about Booktopia was being able to spend quality time with readers and also communing (okay, drinking) with fellow authors.

At the Noggin with Peter Geye, Bill Roorbach, Peter Heller, Edward Kelsey Moore, and Melanie Benjamin. Then it was down the lake to Traverse City for tomorrow night's National Writers Series gig at the City Opera House (Does karaoke count? If not I'm a weak 2nd tenor).

Speaking of performances, I had time to catch the Breaking Bad finale in all its big-screen glory at the State Theatre. I love the haz-mat suits. Seriously, you can't be too careful with that butter-flavored topping.

Tsakopoulos Library Galleria: Sacramento, CA

It's a good thing I don't get stage fright (all that karaoke singing really paid off), because there was a tremendous crowd on hand for the Sacramento Bee Book Club event. Thanks for bee-ing there (sorry, couldn't help myself), especially the Ladies Who Read book club where were especially enthusiastic.

And now, two planes and a scenic car ride later I find myself in Petoskey, MI, for Booktopia. What exactly is Booktopia? It's a regional fan event for listeners of the Books on the Nightstand podcast. The Petoskey weekend sold out in one hour without the ticket-buyers even knowing who the authors were. How cool is that? These are incredible, black-belt level book lovers!

Petoskey is gorgeous, the town in amazing, and I can't wait to wander over to McLean & Eakin Bookstore to pick up a few things to share this afternoon.
