Хотел на углу горке и слатке

Famous Serbian, Nikola Tesla, not reading HOTEL.That’s Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet—in Serbian, the latest foreign sale, which means that in the near future, used copies will be sold at garage sales in 21 different countries. Just keepin’ it real, folks.

That’s one drawback to eBooks—a future without cheap used books. When I was a kid I bought Asimov’s Foundation Trilogy for a nickel. A nickel!

Speaking of garage sales, I heard a story about a famous author (who shall remain nameless) buying his own books at garage sales for 25¢, signing them, and then selling them on eBay for $20-$30. As Hayley Mills would say, “Scathingly brilliant!”

Another cool place in the world where your word will be spread. Nice job. The other cool thing about this post is that I can actually read the cyrillic (though I can't speak Serbian). Yep, learning Russian in the Army will do that for ya. Anyway, congrats Jamie. Just one more country under your literary umbrella of domination.

Seriously? Wow, that's cool.

I once designed a brochure for Petro Star, which had to be translated into cyrillic. There was an import error when we flowed in the text, so the thing was riddled with typos. Of course, no one could read it, and the translator was insulted that we'd want him to proof it, so he dismissed it. It went to press, 15,000 brochures...all with these crazy typos in cyrillic.

Heh heh. Yeah, I can imagine how mad he was. My biggest regret is that I haven't had the time (nor opportunity) to keep up my Russian language skills. While I can still read it, my memory of vocabulary is deplorable. Oh well.

Congratulations (once again)! I do enjoy reading online, but nothing will ever replace the feeling of awe and contentment I receive while perusing a used book store, or searching through the boxes of books at a garage sale. I love being surrounded by books & discovering new-to-me authors.
Oh, and The Parent Trap was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I loved Haley Mills!
