Bust out the lutefisk, 'cause it’s party time

You know, I’ve never been numero uno at anything. I’ve won silver in a karate tournament, but missed the gold. I’ve taken second-place in softball. I’ve even drawn that Monopoly card that reads, “You win 2nd place in a beauty contest.”

But this week, all that changed when I found out that HOTEL is #1 (drumroll please) in Norway. HOTEL is also currently a bestseller in Italy and Taiwan. And I’m still hanging around the IndieBound and New York Times bestseller lists, #9 and #18, respectively, for those of you keeping score at home.

Speaking of keeping score at home, it’s time for the Winter Olympics. Where athletes from countries like Norway will, in all likelihood, be enjoying the view from atop the medal stands—and deservedly so.

At least in this small corner of the literary world, there’s someone chanting, “USA!”

Does this mean your official publisher bio will describe you as "#1 Best Selling Author Jamie Ford" or will they alternate that with "New York Times Best Selling Author Jamie Ford"?

Big time congrats, Jamie. That is so awesome.

Incidentally, I was talking to my son's History teacher at Parent/Teacher conferences last night and the subject of your book came up (we were talking about the class studying Japanese internment camps). It was cool, especially since I got to tell the teacher how I had the opportunity to interview you a while back. Cool points for me!

Is "Oh I decky tay ooh ree she day sue" the same in all languages? I could see that line being a stumper for some translators...

Can't wait to read the book. My sister got it for her birthday this weekend and I was allowed a little peek inside. When I was living in Seattle some 20 years ago, I became aware of the camps for the Japanese Americans during WWII. Read some excerpts from the book on a web-site, which made me even more eager to read this book! Hope to get some flashbacks to the Seattle I once knew.
I just finished hotel 2 days ago for class I really hate reading but after 2 or 3 days into it I stated staying up reading this instead of doing stuff on the computer and xbox. It was the best book I have ever read (that's not saying slot I guess since I don't read) but I really did enjoy reading it.

I love hearing from readers that don't normally read. Glad I'm making a difference.
