Anyone speak Min Nan?

I've been wondering how the Chinese version of HOTEL would be received. This early blog review of an advance readers copy is a good sign. I just wish I understood it. (I've been told it's a "thumbs up" from KJ, a prolific Taiwanese blogger).

hi, I am KJ. Actually its Mandarin not Min-nan. In this film, I focus on "National Identity" issue and how different generation face their life. I like your novel. I was much moved by this story (and cried twice while I was read this novel :P).

Judging from the comment Jamie, you obviously did a good job. I am not surprised though. While I can't say whether you wrote it well enough for native Chinese speakers, I believe in the idea that a good story transcends language. You have been very successful in creating a truly great story, so I have no doubts it will be well received no matter where it goes.

Yup, Mandarin. But I can only understand about every other word... :( "Hello everyone... something something friend... something something but... something something American... something something these parents... something something you get the picture." :P

Sigh. I really gotta get back on my Rosetta Stone lessons.
