Powell's Books: Beaverton, OR

Yes, you heard that right. Powell's in Beaverton. I didn't realize there was a new Powell's, not far from the original iconic location. It was a pleasant suprise--but a little like being told to go to Carnegie Hall, not that Carnegie Hall, you know, the new one...in Queens.

Still, it was a lovely store--ginormous--and the staff was fabulous. They had to keep adding chairs as the night went on, which was a good thing. We ended with about 40 people, which kept the Q&A lively.

One memorable moment was checking into the Heathman Hotel and finding a copy of my book on the bed, with a note from the "hotel librarian" asking for it to be signed so they can add it to their collection of nearly 1,000 signed books.

Hotel Librarian? that's a friggin cool hotel. My wife and I stayed at a place in downtown Atlanta that had each room with a stash of interesting old books, but I don't think they had a hotel librarian (of course the place caught fire while we were there, though at least it wasn't a major one).

Yeah...I wish I had been able to spend more time at the hotel. We checked in late, then had to dash out at 6:00am. Maybe next time... :)
