Deadlines tell no tales
Monday, November 30, 2009
Guess what tomorrow is? The first day of December? Well, yeah, that too. But it’s also the day my new manuscript is due. Will I make my deadline, in a word: sorry.
But…I’m soooo close––horseshoes and hand grenades close.
Right now Whispers of a Thunder God, otherwise know as “That strange kamikaze book,” is clocking in at 123,000 words and 502 pages. But, about fifty of those pages really need a good Viking funeral. So that’s what I’m still working on. It’s like performing surgery to remove some derelict organ, then closing up the patient and trying to leave as little scar tissue as possible. Luckily I haven’t had to break out the defib paddles.
And while my amazing editor mentioned that I could probably deliver by the end of the year and still be okay, man, I hate to be late. For dinner, for a movie, for a root canal, I hate to be late for anything.
So, back to the grindstone…

You'll make it soon--even if you're just a little late. Better late than never, right?
BTW, I hate being late for anything too.
Take the time you need. You can't rush perfection.
