St. Petersburg Times Festival of Reading: St. Petersburg, FL
Monday, October 26, 2009
Made it home safely from the sunny shores of Florida. My luggage was not so lucky, deciding to make a detour through the Midwest before showing up on my doorstep 24 hours later with a wicked hangover.
The Festival of Reading was fantastic—Andy Borowitz was hilarious and Amber Tamblyn’s poetry was painful and angry and joyful (and certainly confusing for those few folks that showed up to see that sweet girl from Joan of Arcadia).
It was so satisfying to see 100+ people at my event (makes the long airport layovers worth every restless moment). Plus, fellow author, Johanna Moran brought a slice of homemade key lime pie—thank you! It was dee-lish.
Now it’s back to work. Here’s what my busy Monday looks like:
- Wrote a blog post for Pantagruel, my Norwegian publisher.
- Filled out an author questionnaire for the Italian version of Hotel.
- Signed/shipped a box of paperbacks for a special bookseller.
- Signed/shipped a hardback for a special reader.
- Sent a book on CD to the mother of a friend (she doesn’t see well and he’s been reading her the book).
- Signed and faxed author agreements for the Miami Book Fair and the Tucson Festival of Books.
- Trying to figure out how to get from Great Falls, Montana to the University of Connecticut for a speaking engagement, in less than four airplanes.
- Sorting receipts from recent travels.
- Filing the annual report of Bittersweet Productions with the state of Montana.
- Digging up a Chinese recipe for an author cookbook that someone is producing.
- Waiting for a phone interview at 2:30 MT.
If I could squeeze in a little writing time, Monday would be perfect.
