Montana Festival of the Book: Missoula, MT

I knew I was back in Montana the moment I saw my rental car. Not a Prius, or a PT Cruiser. No, in Montana they gave me a black Pontiac GT muscle-car that smelled like an ashtray in a pool-hall. The only thing missing was a mule deer strapped to the spoiler. Equally surprising was that this Batmobile of rental cars went 140 mph without a governor spoiling the fun (I didn’t have the nerve—or road—to peg it. But 110 certainly got me from the airport to downtown in a hurry).

My event was held at the Missoula Art Museum, placing me smack dab in the middle of Roger Shimomura’s exhibit, Minidoka on My Mind. It was a perfect setting for a great night. I even had time to catch Dennis Lehane’s reading over at the Wilma Theater.

Now it’s off to St. Petersburg where I’ll be speaking tomorrow.
