Prairie Lights Bookstore: Iowa City, IA

Did my thing at Prairie Lights last night, high on the news that HOTEL debuted in paperback at #12 on the Indie bestseller list and #15 on NYT. The best news of course is that I get to go home to my wife and kids (and dogs), after two weeks on the road.

The most memorable thing about Prairie Lights, was that there was a poetry reading later in the evening. I mentioned that I loved poetry slams to a very nice, genteel woman––you should have seen the look on her face. It was as though I declared that I wanted to roll pages of Wordsworth into a fat blunt and smoke it while doing a keg-stand on Robert Frost's grave. She was mortified.

Yessir, tastes they do vary don't they?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, do yourself a favor and google Anis Mojgani. Heck, even HBO's Def Poetry (with Kanye West, et al) is a worthy endeavor. And if you can handle mainlining a seven-minute aria, watch this vid of Derrick Brown, who performed this amazing piece at Wordstock.
