This is ground control to Major Tom...

I'm either about to go on the air or take an order for a Happy Meal.I love technology. One of these days I’ll just be able to tap in and do a digital radio interview on my Samsung Omnia. (iPhones are not sold in Montana. Hellooo, Mr. Jobs?) Until then we still need to do it via studio—this one being KGPR out here on the hinterlands, where they hooked me up with Scott Simon of NPR for a lovely chat about HOTEL. Listen for it soon on Weekend Edition Saturday. I hear it’s been moved from 3:00 AM to the more convenient 3:45 AM timeslot. Okay, maybe just in parts of the South Dakota.

I also stayed to cut a promo for the local station’s fundraising efforts. (I saw the studio—they need your money. Please give!)

In other news, today was my big literary coming out party. Thanks to everyone for waving and cheering from the curb as I dragged my carcass across the finish line, Gatorade cup in hand. So along with the NPR interview, here’s some of the other juicy news I’ve been waiting to share:

Hotel is the February Pennie’s Pick for Coscto. It was a pleasure meeting Pennie Clark Ianniciello a few months ago. When she asked how I’d feel about being her pick for February, I think I said something suave like, “Hhuhsdbs dsddow whu?” I was blown away. Still am.

Hotel is the March New Reads Book Club Pick for Barnes & Noble.
What does that mean? It means I’ll be online at B&N.com to answer your questions and otherwise rub cyber-elbows with readers.

Hotel is a Borders Original Voices Pick. The Original Voices program highlights emerging writers. Finalists in four categories are chosen from more than 150 books. The winners from each category receive a $5,000 award and a gold ticket on American Idol. I made that last part up.

And in the realm of fantastic bonus coverage, here’s a bit of backstory on…Backstory.

Plus a guest blog about bleeding on the page.

And how was your day, dear?

Way to go Jamie! I know at least two of your former classmates from OSC's writing class/boot camp have already purchased their copies. I showed patience and bought from amazon, and Jose Mojica went all instant gratification and bought it at his local Borders (if his twitters are to be believed).

I think you need to sign up for the twitter so you can be like Neil Gaiman and let the world know with some well placed profanity when you start winning awards.

David--screw this whole publishing model. That's where the real money's at--T-shirts and beer.

Thanks Cindy!

Charles--I love Neil Gaiman. His book events are amazing. He could read from the dictionary and I'd be enthralled.

How was my day? Well, I collected another rejection out of the 35 queries I currently have going, so not too bad, but still behind where I'd like to be at this point. Honestly, it feels good just to have something out there for people to reject!

Congratulations on all the recognitionings and endorsifications! Judging from local Costco book activity, that one alone could be huge.
