Tomorrow = big day

Yes, when the sun rises tomorrow, the long wait will finally be over. After months and months of hype and anticipation, of sample chapters and buzz-worthy blog reviews—John Grisham’s new legal thriller will be hitting shelves everywherrrrrr…wait…lemme start that again.

Tomorrow is a big day. Because somewhere in the back of your local bookstore, behind the towering pallets of John Grisham’s, The Associate, sits a modest looking case of books with my name on it. A few people have even sampled the wares, because official reviews are rolling in:

“Somewhere, a screenwriter is salivating over Jamie Ford's debut novel.”— Minneapolis Star Tribune

“Ford deftly weaves the themes of first love, racism, blind patriotism, family and tradition into a satisfying and heart-wrenching tale.”—Deseret News, Salt Lake City

“Ford, of Chinese descent, is the kind of down-to-earth writer you’d like to have a cup of coffee with. His full-length fiction debut might make you fall in love with Seattle—or at least start digging up your own city’s wartime history and possible jazz roots. It will make you want to call your oldest relatives and ask how they met their spouses. More than anything, though, it will make you linger on the final pages, sure that even the bitterest memories and the most painful regret can yield something sweet.” —BookPage

(Plus, Amazon has 31 customer reviews up, and the book isn’t even out yet. Let’s hope that’s a good omen for the new year).

Sleep well. We’ll talk tomorrow.

Woot woot. Got my Amazon shipping notification last night. Now we just need a visit from the author and life will be complete.

To complete my Charles Bukowski-like author voyage, I need to show up drunk on your doorstep and then proceed to sleep on your patio for a few weeks. Maybe once the weather clears up...

I received my copy today! My revisions are overdue, so my reward for finishing them by Friday will be reading your book. :)

I got my copy today! My local indie bookstore ordered it for me and called the moment it came in. I've been sighing for it since Kristin posted the note from Publishers Lunch way back when.

I'm shoving everything else aside to read. Three chapters in, and so far, I'm hooked!

My copy's on it's way from Amazon, too. Can't wait to hear the spine's glue crack... smell the spicy new pages... then read the story inside.

Congratulations, Jamie! And also to your friend John Grisham on his little book. ;-)

That Bookpage review must have just made you glow.

I think I'll stop by my bookstore and do my standard "I know the author" routine... hold the book up, stare at it intently, say, "I heard this is great! Do you know anything about it?" really loud a bunch of times to everyone in earshot, and then take it up to the counter and say, "Whew! I'm so glad you had a couple of copies... everywhere else is sold out!"

And so on.

Well, I don't really do that. I do a modified version where I buy the book and tell the person at the counter I've heard good things.

Happy launch day!

Looking forward to the Saturday gig and getting mine signed. Hope the line isn't too long - and I hope nobody drools on it, like they evidently do in Minneapolis.

Are you really going to be at the Torrance Public Library? How did THAT come about?

In any case, that's within striking distance of beautiful Huntington Beach, so I and some friends will do our best to get there.
