Killing the ones you love

I've been busy with the rewrite all weekend. Dancing around it. Writing around it. Then finally lining up the first few chapters of my WIP and shooting them in the head. And what did you do all weekend?

I spent a weekend NOT writing, Jamie. It was blissful.

Now I'm cranking out words in my ms.

Well, good for you! I was not nearly as productive. Wrote the weekly column yesterday and changed the sheets on my bed. Whew! Exhausting.

Avoided the novel by getting my hands on an Xbox 360.

Goodbye writing career, goodbye.

I did writing-related stuff--writing group meeting, book festival. Worked on a pitch sheet for an agent appointment I have next week.

But no actual writing. Bad writer, bad!

Ah, the Xbox 360. It needs a Surgeon General's Warning on the side. I want one badly. (So bad, I'm using adverbs to express my desire). I want an Xbox the way a fat kid wants cake.

Must. Resist. Urge.

Daniel - where'd you get it? Who had it? Bastard. I mean that, of course, in the nicest possible way, but still. Bastard.

I routinely blow away the first chapter or two. I always seem to start the early drafts with stuff I need rather than stuff the reader needs.

I'm working on a third draft too. Did a little last night, but otherwise I don't work on weekends!

I love to work on weekends. I get restless/crazy if I don't. When I'm rewriting I work on it every day until I'm done. (It's that OCD thing again).

...I drew cartoons.

Suddenly I don't feel very productive at all.

It's more productive than watching cartoons...

I'm recovering. I just birthed a big first draft. Now I'm trolling through older bookmarks looking for the weirdest thing I can amuse myself with.

Wait, I don't think that came out right.

That's okay, Alpha. As John Lennon said "whatever gets you through the night".
